Death Chant: Kimo's Battle Against the Shamanic Forces

By Dan Robison

Will Kimo Survive the Death Chant?

Kimo was staring at the Old One in fright as he listened to what she was saying. "Why are my feet numb?" he asked.

"As your soul is taken into the dark energy, it is robbed from your body. It always starts from your feet. That is the part of your body closest to and in most intimate contact with Mother Earth. As time goes by, more and more of your soul is taken from you. Finally when the numbness reaches your heart, the center of your soul, what is left suddenly is drawn from you and you die."

Lau gasped when she heard this. She hadn’t had any dealing with medicine men, shamans or high priests and had no idea that such a thing could occur. "Isn’t there anything we can do to stop Kimo from losing his soul?"

-Excerpt from Chapter 5

Death Chant is the second book in a series that tells the story of a Hawaiian boy who conquers his fear and learns to believe in himself. In the first book (Kimo’s Escape), Kimo was sentenced to death for accidentally knocking over the chief of his village. Kimo escapes to the City of Refuge. In Death Chant, Kimo battles evil shamans and a wild boar, survives a tsunami with the help of his two dolphin friends, and learns that he is chosen to unite the peoples of the Big Island of Hawaii. A great read for young people.
